Date of Hike: Sunday, November 27, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty in the area to choose from although I will suspect that Mt. Clinton Rd will close soon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Drifts, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings are bridged or step overs. There are a lot of seeping sections where the trail is just wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in good shape... Erosion and "hiker re-routes" are evident still. Snow is filling in nicely.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: At this time of year, exercise caution in taking your dog out. These conditions are no joke. If they cannot handle the cold, ice, snow, water, or windchill, leave the pup at home. If they have not hiked a 4K yet, it is not the time to try it out. Please have control of your dog via voice or leash... Don't just passively say that they are friendly and let them charge. There are plenty of hikers out there afraid of dogs and plenty of dogs that are otherwise friendly but will turn aggressive if charged. Winter trails are challenging enough for a dog. Exercise common sense.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Almost lost my gloves and my camera but retraced to retrieve them... Otherwise, nothing.

Comments
Comments: OK... With winter conditions, exercise caution when hiking always. Dress for the weather up top. I saw way too many fall hikers dressed in fall outfits and sneakers. The Crawford Path to Mt. Pierce is easy and direct but once above tree line, the temp drops and today, so did visibility. No way was I going to move on to Eisenhower (even though I wanted too). ALSO, geocaching with your phone??? Conserve your power for an emergency.

The trail itself is in great shape... The snow is filling in nicely. I had no snow shoes but I would recommend them above tree line for the drifts up to my thighs. Spikes actually took a ride today too but I can understand how some might want them. Lower trail still thawing out mid-day in the warmer temps. But I suspect that won't be happening much more.
