Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Nothing new or of significance, Kinsman Ridge trail is its usual terrible eroded self
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hannah did well - she's a seasoned four season hiking dog and adept at handling icy conditions. This trail is steep and rough enough without any ice and snow and it's much trickier now with the ice, not a good trail for dogs inexperienced with steep icy conditions

Comments
Comments: Lots of leaves but otherwise a dry trail at the start, ice starts shortly after the trail crosses the ski trail for the first time - often times a thin layer on slanted rocks making for some tricky footing - we put our micros on here and left them on until the same place on the way down. The ice became thicker in spots and the snow started a few tenths of a mile later - once the snow became a bit deeper and packed higher up in the glade it helped with traction but it was still slow going at time. Footing was a bit better from where the trail levels out before the viewpoint to the start of the last steeper exposed section below the summit, some tricky rock hopping above treeline since the snow hasn't filled in much. Slow and steady on the way down - we took our time with our foot placement especially going through the glade area. Assuming conditions stay as they are, this route would be dangerous without traction - rock micros worked pretty well even if we were still slow in the areas with thicker ice - regular micros could be used but would get chewed up on the rocks since the ice on the lower half isn't consistent.

Good weather and great company made for an enjoyable afternoon - thanks Ali, Tim and Hannah for a good hike, so happy to have this one gridded out!
