| Comments: |
Many unprepared hikers got stuck at Shining Rock trail when the ice required some traction (spikes, crampons, etc...). I saw at least 15 hikers attempt to make it and ended up making a wise decision and turned around and headed down. Even saw a few more unprepared hikers attempt to cross the ridge, which is in full winter conditions, with jeans and light jackets. Folks, winter has arrived above 4,000 feet. Just because its nice and seasonal at the trailhead you need to prepare for what you might be facing. |
