Comments
Comments: After failing the Kinsmans in April due to ice, we were excited to get back out there and try it again. Though it has a fairly modest ten and a half mile round trip this hike kicked our butts. So much of this trip is tricky footing over rock slabs, particularly on Fishin' Jimmy and both sides of North Kinsman. Add in the fact that the weather turned on us a bit and there was actually wet slabs from drizzle, this hike was tedious. Fishin' Jimmy was fine going up (and quite beautiful) but rough on the knees coming back down.
We made it to both peaks, but honestly I thought the views from south would have been more substantial...360 degrees, yes, but round and broad summit with lots of stunted pine diluted the views. The view down to the pond on north is the best in the trip. Take the small extra path to the left to reach the furthest out section of ledges. That's where the best view is.
