Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Redrock Brook and Hellgate Brook were easily rock-hoppable. Franconia Brook near Camp 10 was not so simple - had to REALLY look around for a place to cross as even slightly damp rocks were icy first thing this morning.

Bugs
Bugs: A stinging something was on the talus slope - I had to keep swatting it away. Very annoying.

Comments: 4 Talus Slopes on East Side of Owl's Head, Logging Camp 9, Logging Camp 10

Terrific time poking around in the Pemi Wilderness. Most of the woods were open. Nice skidder road took me most of the way to southernmost talus field. From there, the side hill to the other three talus fields was VERY difficult. Not super-thick. Middle 2 talus fields were somewhat unstable - I had to be really careful not to knock any rocks loose. Far northernmost talus was just super-fun and massive. From there the descent was scary. I bushwhacked east from the last talus field and hit a minefield of booby-traps - ground looked firm in multiple places but I ended up falling into holes up to my hips. More than once.

Interestingly, I found no skidder roads between the talus fields nor in any portion of the northeast quadrant of Owl's Head - ?

General summary: rode my mountain bike to the wilderness boundary where Iocked it up, then, I jogged to Camp 10 and began my bushwhack. Once back on the trail, north of Redrock Brook, I jogged back to my bike. Always fun to jog this trail.

Amazing views!!!!! Many artifacts everywhere and I even found a neat artifact on one of the talus fields. Super day!!!!
