Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked on super extra wide shoulder area on Route 4A's northbound west side, north of the townline and just after the curve in the road. There is a gated road on the east side of 4A that is maybe a snowmobile trail or a more recent logging road and perhaps this is why the shoulder is extra wide here. Across the road on the west side is a gated old woods road/snowmobile trail with grown up grass with narrow herd path running down the middle--that is where I started my hike.

Comments: After studying NH F&G topo map 120NW (click Springfield) I decided that maybe I could keep my feet dry by giving this route a try. I used the old road/snowmobile trail and I was hoping to take a left onto another that appears on the map but I couldn't find it. I noticed that a while ago it had been logged just to the south and I wondered if the logging had messed with the road. I walked past the area that had been logged and I set my bearing and headed straight for the 2,021' summit. I walked through a soggy area that would have been horrible if it wasn't such a dry summer. woods were decent and open. Cool moss and ferns along the way. I crossed a dried stream as I neared the "summit cone" (ha ha). I had stayed on a ridge above the drainage and was happy to walk smack into the recognized highpoint. I walked around the top area and there are a few other bumps that felt just as high. I found a nice moose antler and stuck it in the tree where you'll see it. Returned similar route but lower down I hit the old road I was looking for on the way up and I followed it down nicely for a few minutes before getting all tangled up in the weeds and messed up section at corner of the logged area. I cut through woods to get to the road I had come in on. Woods get pretty dark after 6 pm, oh I miss summer's long days already!
