The Easton town highpoint is on the townline west of the summit of North Kinsman. I hiked up the Mt Kinsman Trail and then south on the Kinsman Ridge Trail. At the first rotting bog bridge I entered the woods, just below approximately elev. 4000'. I tried to push through staying on the contour and slightly rising out to the top of the ridge. I used my gps and walked up and down and back and forth on the townline. Lots of difficult woods, thick jail cell bar trees, green moss, rocks/broken ledge and a couple surprising nice areas. From there I bushwhacked straight up to the North Peak through a mixture of tight trees and on the edge of fir wave. I found a nice boulder to stand on and enjoyed a unique North Kinsman vista south/west/north. I also passed by the remains on an old moose skeleton (JR said he had found it last year). I popped back out on the trail right across from the summit boulder. Since the day was nice I added out and back to South Kinsman too. Lots of people on the trail, met a volunteer working at the hut out for a morning hike. |
