Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No problems.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I hadn't been on KRT in four years, but it's still very steep, rough and eroded in its lower sections. No other problems though. Both KRT and CT are well-trodden highways.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure, for hearty trail dogs. We saw one. No water on this route until the end though, so be sure to carry plenty.
Bugs
Bugs: Only on the old ski trails, where they became pesky.

Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: An interesting traverse from Franconia Notch over to Rt. 116. After a leisurely 10:15am start, we headed up the KRT which got us up to Cannon fairly quickly. The day was hot and very humid, which slowed me down on the steep ascent. On Cannon we had a lunch break amidst the crowds who took interest in seeing dirty, sweaty hikers roaming around. :)

From the top of the tramway, we went across the ridge to Mittersill, where we took a side trip and whacked through some VERY thick stuff to a couple of excellent outlook ledges about 1000' from the summit.

Shortly past the summit of Mittersill, we turned left onto an abandoned ski trail, which was overgrown but had an evident path from foot traffic. We descended this until we picked up what I believe to be the abandoned Coppermine Ski Trail, which was flagged most of the way down to the falls. Just past the falls, we left the ski trail and whacked very steeply down to the CT, where we popped out right below the shelter.

Climbing up to the lower falls, a few of us took a dip. The water was very cold, but felt great on this hot day. From the falls, it was an easy walk out to our spotted cars.
