|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||No problem finding parking at the Crawford Notch Depot at 9:00 a.m. |
||Dry Trail |
|Water Crossing Notes:
||Two crossings at the beginning of the Avalon Trail were fairly easy rock hops. Water levels were quite low. |
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||WRT between Field and Willey is a bit overgrown and quite narrow in places. Very easy to scrape yourself on overhanging branches if you're not careful! |
||Not a problem! |
|Lost and Found:
||Picture perfect day on the Willey Range. |
Started up the Avalon Trail - the side trail to Mt. Avalon is worth the detour, wonderful views down into the notch and across to the Presidentials.
The best views of the day were just below Willey on the other side. Washington and the southern presis were in clear view, and many grey jays wanted our snacks!
The summit of Tom was difficult to find, but we found some interesting views while we were looking for it.
Overall, a great (albeit underrated) hike.
