| Water Crossing Notes: |
The water crossings weren't difficult with the low water levels. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Hopefully the treetop blowdown below the loop junction will be removed soon, but it is easy to get through or around. Otherwise the trails are in fine shape. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
BYOB for the long stretches where no natural water is available. Expect a lot of human and canine company on the trails this time of year especially on weekends. |
|
| Bugs: |
Hardly any and they weren't biting- yea. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
I picked up a few tiny pieces of trash, corners of granola bar wrappers, etc. That's all. |

This is the third time I've done this loop and the the first time counterclockwise. I think I like this version better, though they each have their pros and cons. The last time I was here was 15 years ago, wow. The 0.1 mile side trail to Shining Rock off the Falling Waters Trail is worth the detour. I had another first on this trip; about a mile and a half in I met up with another hiker who was moving at a very similar pace so we ended up hiking together for the rest of the trip- thanks Heather. Thanks also to people who have been submitting reports on this route for the helpful information. As expected it was a very busy day on these trails. Everyone I encountered seemed to be considerate and well prepared. The viewing conditions were the clearest I've ever seen in July. |
