Cool, windy and clear. Mt Washington summit was in a cloud but the rest of the ridge was clear. Parked at Glen Boulder Trail and ran down the road to Rocky Branch Trail to start. The mud and water on the Rocky Branch Trail and Davis Path was much less than I expected. Had low top Gortex trail shoes and had some mud on them but the feet stayed dry without any extraordinary effort. Heavy winds on the ridge. Packed a running jacket, gloves and ear covering head band and was glad I had it once I was above tree line but did not need them below tree line. Descending Glen Boulder was tough, especially on the exposed section just above the boulder. It's steep and boulder to boulder and it felt like there was a wind tunnel effect that nearly knocked me off my feet. Observatory recorded 50 mph stead, 70 mph gusts during the time I was on that section! |
