Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 16, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Used the Glen Ellis Falls parking area. To reach the Wildcat Ridge Trail use the underpass below route 16 and turn left after exiting the east side. The parking area can fill up with tourists visiting the falls and hikers going up the Glen Boulder Trail.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Able to cross the Ellis River without much difficulty. Decided to take a route just upstream of the direct crossing to take advantage of rocks with flatter surfaces. Since there are so many boulders in the stream one should survey the possible routes and select the route with the best footing. This river crossing would be difficult and dangerous with higher water levels. If the water level is high, then use the Lost Pond Trail from Pinkham Notch to reach the Wildcat Ridge Trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in great shape. No obstructions. Many rock steps and some wood steps to help in the steeper areas. Bog bridges in good condition.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw one dog that had to turn back due to the steep rock coming out of Pinkham Notch. I don't recall any other dogs today.
Bugs
Bugs: No problems today
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Had to remove a discarded water bottle left at Glen Ellis Falls. This isn't the first time at this site.

Comments
Comments: The hike across Wildcat Ridge is relatively short but it involves a steep climb out of Pinkham Notch, lots of ledges, many ups and downs, and rough footing in places. The ledges would be miserable if wet especially on descent. When conditions are dry and the Ellis River is low this is a great hike. The excellent trail maintenance is appreciated in such rough terrain. Saturday there were views in to the eastern ravines of the Presidential Range but the summits were hid in clouds. There is a great view in to Carter Notch from Wildcat A.
There were many hikers out on Saturday including kids aged 5, 7, and 11 from Monson MA. Met a couple of Northeastern U graduates. Many thru hikers both north and south bound.
