Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Still a few spots left at Appalachia at 9am, and a similar amount on my return at 2:50.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were fairly easy hops at current water levels. Some rocks damp.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails in great shape overall. The Link had a few minor muddy areas, was brushy in a few spots, and had some recently axed blowdowns. Randolph is getting some love from the RMC trail crew, as some waterbar work was going on today, between Pentadoi and where Short Line diverges (nearing Airline). I thanked them all for their work.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Fairly unrelenting overall, especially down low on The Link and Randolph Path, but even somewhat bothersome above treeline.

Comments
Comments: With the weather holding for today, I decided to grin and bear it, and got in some after work, sleep deprived hiking. Really enjoyed the trip up through Castle Ravine, it had been a long time, and the gradual descent on Randolph. Saw a couple hikers at the start, then no one until near the Randolph junction with Castle Ravine. On the way down, I only saw the trail crew. A fun time getting out on the lesser used trails today, sweating up a storm in the heat.
