Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were easy rock hops today, levels still really low even with some rain yesterday. Upper crossing on Pine Bend Brook is dry. Very little water between the source at Camp Rich and the first running crossing on PBB.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in overall good shape. Some old stepovers on Champney Brook. Large birch trunk down across the upper part of the Chocorua Branch of Beeline. A few old stepovers on the Paugus Branch, and on Old Paugus Trail. Some brushy areas on Walden. Several old stepovers on Pine Bend Brook.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a couple out with their humans, enjoying the day.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad until I hit the Tripyramids, then I had to keep moving to prevent them from driving me insane.

Comments
Comments: Today was the day to give the extended Sandwich Range Traverse a go, and it was every bit as rugged as I expected it would be. Hit Middle Sister before sunrise, then moved on to Chocorua, the sun coming up during my climb to the summit. Ledges on upper Liberty and Brook were slick in the morning. Scrubbed most of the elevation I'd gained, climbed steeply up over Paugus, then scrubbed a bunch on the other side. Ran into the first people of the day at the 4-Way junction. Walden Trail is as wild and beautiful as I remember, and Rollins was a pleasant surprise after not having been on it in several years. Kate Sleeper was a joy as usual, as was the Mt. Tripyramid Trail. Dropped down to the road, hoping to snag a lift back to my car. After the third car went by, with a passenger mocking my thumb out the window, I gave up, and just walked it. Not ideal, but it got the job done. Next time, I'll arrange things better. A great day in the Sandwich Range!
