Comments
Comments: Today was the day I had off so headed to needed peak isolation. one other car in the lot which pleased me. trail to the first height of land showed evidence of heavy rain last night but was in pretty good shape actually. once past there it was quite wet with trail nd brook sharing the same spots. opted for a bushwhack i have used many times below engine hill winter route which i thought would be very wet. the route I took, while a brushy car wash in spots was pretty direct and brought me right to the second crossing when other hiker was getting across . chatted with camo hiker (jeff) for a bit and we joined forces for the rest of the day . some serious mud and water on trail in spots. upper crossing uneventful. wet slog to the hummock before davis path where we cut through on winter route which sadly has seen some cutting. Davis path wet in the usual spots but we were to spur in no time. of course it started to rain there, a very cold rain and we did not linger and also abandoned plans for boott spur descent. made good time back to crossing in on again off again sun and showers. jeff followed on the bushwhack i like there to avoid 1/2 crossings and we popped out on trail perfect on a slightly easier route than i had used in the morning. uneventful to wilderness boundary where it started to rain again and we were soon engulfed in a pretty wild thunderstorm, not much in the way of wind but we hiked in pea sized hail and 6 inches of water in spots for about 20 minutes with thunder crashing around. once to the final down the storm cleared and while there was water on the trail things went well. nice to meet up with jeff (SSW48#100) 573 on the knee grid june is done..great day out...been working too much!!!
