| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
A good amount of cars at the lot both whenI arrived and when I left. Easily accessible and obvious to find. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All water crossings are easy... We are seriously lacking rain but I can see that they would be problematic if we got a lot of rain in the near future. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One large blowdown that is rather precarious on the upper Rattle River trail. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Plenty of water low on the crossings for dogs to drink and some seeps on the upper trails. Tough rocks for unconditioned pads. Also strenuous trail as far as the steep sections go. |
| Bugs: |
The heat brigs those little buggers out. |
| Lost and Found: |
Nothing here. |

| Comments: |
What a nice way to start a trail.... Nice and mellow to warm up the legs... Then a few water crossings. Then a climb. Those rock stairs are never even enough to just walk either. but all in all not a bad way to get up to Moriah. I would go this way again if I was visiting this peak. It seemed much nicer than the standard routes. The bog bridges on Kenduskeag were a real treat for my legs after the steeper sections of Rattle River. There is also a deep pool for a good swim at the end. No log book at the shelter... I always look forward to those at the shelters to see who's been through. Another section of the AT completed for me. :) |
