Six-ish new miles of redlining today, completing the section of EPT between Rt. 302 and the Zeacliff Trail junction. What a beautiful trail! I enjoyed every moment of it. It is not a wilderness trail, but is still very quiet and remote.
On the way in I also took the campsite spur to check out the shelter. Pretty cool area in there. A sign states a caretaker is there starting June 1, but there was no one around.
Nice easy walking all the way to Zealand Notch, where I reached my turnaround point at the base of the massive talus slopes on Whitewall Mt. It amazes me whenever I see all that rock. Climbing the slide is still on my bucket list...
On the way out I took the short side trip to Thoreau Falls where I had lunch. Gorgeous! I'll definitely be back here on a better weather day.
Back on the EPT, a light rain started and didn't really stop, so I went into auto-pilot for the long walk out. Saw several groups coming from Zealand Falls Hut, I appeared to be the only inbound hiker. A great day out! |
