Took the route less traveled to Lafayette today- the Greenleaf Trail start to finish, from the tramway to the summit. Much of the lower 2.7 miles of the trail, before the hut, were like a brook- running water all over the place. Past the hut, it was significantly drier. Great views from the hut, Eagle Pass, and the upper slopes of Lafayette, but none on the top itself due to clouds. Cold and windy near and on the summit- so much that I (as well as several others) had to put on a heavy jacket, winter hat, and gloves. Going down, the trail had dried quite a bit in places.
One thing to note: There were a lot of leftover snow and ice patches in Eagle Pass, including one really big patch that appeared to be about 8-10 feet long and 1 to 1.5 feet deep at its deepest point. Fortunately, all of these patches were in rock crevasses or pits in the ground and not on the trail. Still awesome to look at though. |
