Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks South Kinsman, NH
Trails
Trails: Reel Brook Trail, Kinsman Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, May 28, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking for about 3 people at Reel Brook. Take care entering and exiting the trail head as the rocks will be difficult for lower cars and the trees will bite if you are too concentrated on the rocks... I drive a 2011 Focus and knocked my side mirror for a loop exiting.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings are easy right now and even if your foot went in, the water was refreshing... I wear trail runners that dry quick so, this was a non-issue and a must in this heat. We need rain though...
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in great shape... Entrance to the trail head leaves something to be desired.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Isis had a good hike but it was a hot one for her. There is plenty of water on Reel Brook and a few big crossings on the KRT... But still bring extra for your dog. Make sure they can handle long trips, boulders, and the heat.
Bugs
Bugs: OMG... They were awful today. I used a ton of bug spray. It's the new summer scent.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing...

Comments
Comments: This is a very quiet and not well visited trail. I only saw about 11 people total on the holiday weekend. I was thankful for this. Reel Brook trail is a gem and easy to follow as well as navigate. I enjoyed it as an approach very much. The remaining section of the KRT to South Kinsman was a challenge but it is characterized by a great stretch of cascades... I like this. One had a decent pool to soak in on my way out. I am very pleased to have the KRT/AT section behind me now.
