Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Jefferson Notch road is now open, but wasn't open at the beginning of the day so we parked in the Cog lot, plenty of room there
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues, larger ones on Jewell and Boundary Line rock-hoppable though a few rocks were slightly submerged
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Handful of blowdowns on Jewell, all but one have been there all winter, also a bunch of Caps Ridge but all easy step-overs or duck-unders. Cairns are a bit sparse in sections on Edmands Col Cutoff and Cornice but no real issues staying on trail in good visibility
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hannah did great - between the small streams and a few snow patches she stayed hydrated, didn't need the extra water I brought for her but of course was glad to have it. Besides the already tricky Presi rock-hopping the trails around Jefferson present, the Cornice has many sharp rocks with rough surfaces that can abrade the pads and Edmands Col Cutoff had some tricky scrambles, overall not the most dog friendly trails - Hannah's pads are toughened from so much hiking and I checked them several times during the day so she was fine
Bugs
Bugs: Not many, the wind kept them at bay today

Comments
Comments: Great day above treeline - made quick work up Jewell trail and over to Jefferson, one small patch of snow/ice right before the Mt. Clay Loop junction but easily avoidable on rocks. Decided to do some red-lining after making good time to the summit so headed down the top of Six Husbands trail to Edmands Col Cutoff - a few large snow patches on both trails, snow was soft enough to stomp out foot holds to safely make it across. Edmands Col Cutoff was a mix of boulder hopping, brushy narrow trail and snow patches, good views into Jefferson Ravine and across to Adams but a gnarly trail, don't be fooled by the lack of significant elevation change on the map. The Cornice was annoying rock hopping for most of its length, clearly less travelled with pointier less worn rocks, slow going at times but great views along the entire length. Caps Ridge was its usual steep self but no major issues heading down. Walked Jefferson Notch road to Boundary Line trail which was lovely, fairly level with a nice soft footbed and shade from the warm afternoon. Hopped back on Jewell trail at the end and walked the short stretch up the Base road back to the car. All in all a great day - views were a bit hazy but wind kept the bugs at bay, carried traction but didn't need it (yay!), and didn't see anyone until heading down Caps Ridge trail. Thanks Hannah for a great day of exploring.
