 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Mt. Major lot was half full mid-afternoon. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
On Bear Pass, minor rock hop. On Brook Trail, a little bit tricky due to wide (but not deep) crossing lacking much in way of stepping stones (much narrower in the woods). |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Mt. Major Trail and Brook Trail are a disaster due to massive erosion, as well as litter. Noted fresh blazes on Boulder Loop, Beaver Pond Trail, and Bear Pass Trail. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
|

 | Bugs: |
Black flies were vexing on the Mt. Major summit. Otherwise, not bad if moving. |

 | Comments: |
Mt. Major Trail was its usual messy self; mud at the very bottom and heavy erosion in places.
Descended the Beaver Pond Trail briefly to the sharp left turn (near a marsh). Instead of turning, I picked up a herd path, which became the Bear Pass Trail within about 100 feet. From there, the trail was easy to follow (easier to follow and better footing than the parallel Straightback-Major Link) with yellow blazes until about 100 feet of reaching the Straightback Mountain Trail, a fraction of a mile before the summit.
Straightback-Major Link had mud in the usual place.
Brook Trail is an eroded mess and in places, its width is measured not in feet, but in dozens of feet. |
