Comments
Comments: I spent the night at Clam Rock tent site which is dry and in good shape. Ascended the Buttress trail which is clear with a few patches of ice, lots of good spring water on the way up. Took Mt. Adams by Star Lake trail where many Canadians (& others ) were enjoying a near perfect day. Descended by Madison Gulf Tr. with a small snow field lingering at the top. I hadn't taken this trail down in 15 yrs. and I'd forgotten how tough it is. Class 4 & 5 bouldering and down climbing for the entire upper 1/2 followed by steep rooty descents and several stream crossings. Though the trail is in generally good shape, it just never lets up. I met a couple on the way up who were on their first backpacking trip. They had to spend an unexpected night at Madison Spring Hut. A beautiful trek though not for the uninitiated or faint of heart.
