| | Date of Hike: | Saturday, May 21, 2016 | | | | | Parking/Access Road Notes: | Some spots available in the upper Belknap Carriage Road lot on arrival and return. | | | | | Surface Conditions: | Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable | | | | | Recommended Equipment: | | | | | | Water Crossing Notes: | None on this route. | | | | | Trail Maintenance Notes: | Other than a couple of small limbs I tossed aside on the Swett Mountain Trail these trails are in great shape. The BRATTs were out today working in the Gunstock-Belknap col making them even better. I thanked them on both passes for the excellent work they do in this area. Since the last time I did a similar route a few years ago the blazing on Piper is markedly improved. | | | | | Dog-Related Notes: | Saw three out today. Other than some puddles on the Piper summit ridge there isn't a lot of water for Fido. | | | | | Bugs: | For the most part black flies were kept at bay by moving and occasional breezes. They were most annoying in the trees of the Swett Mountain summit. A local hiker advised the ticks were bad heading south on Piper and onto Swett...and he proved to be right as I picked one off on Swett's summit and flicked another one off returning through Piper after I had zipped the legs back onto my pants. | | | | | Lost and Found: | Nothing. | | |

| | | | Comments: | Mostly sunny skies and fairly comfy temps made for a fun time tramping the western Belknaps with a good friend. It is obvious these trails are well cared for which only added to an enjoyable day. | | | | | Name: | HMJ | | | | | E-Mail: | | | | | | Date Submitted: | 2016-05-21 | | | | | Link: | https:// | | | | Disclaimer: Reports are not verified - conditions may vary.
