Dry-ish trail to the junction with A-Z. The steep portions below Avalon were very muddy by the time I made my way down in the afternoon, causing my dog much frustration (he hates being wet and muddy for some reason).
At some point after the spur to Avalon summit, there was enough ice to justify spikes. Ice continues to the junction of Avalon and Willey Ridge, and is sporadic across the ridge from Field to Willey.
Great day to be out there, met plenty of nice folks. Sorry to the couple who tried to catch a ride with me - I was later coming down than I anticipated.
Open question for anyone reading - is there a good way to coordinate rides for traverses requiring car spots? It seems wasteful to drive two cars from Boston just so that 2-3 people don't have to walk a couple miles. There must be some sort of resource out there - where is it? Please email me if you can help out! |
