Comments
Comments: An epic and delightful hike! Gale River Trail was dry with some mud spots. Patchy ice spots right before AT intersection. After that, used old micros to the hut. Didn't need traction going up to Galehead even with small ice patches that were easy to avoid. Hut is open on a caretaker basis. Got some yummy treats fresh out of the oven (for a few bucks)! Used old micros going up Twinway to South Twin. Some consistent ice flows and some dry trail. Took micros on and off only twice. Used old micros between the peaks since snow/ice was consistent and covered most of trail. Kept old micros on and needed them for sure going a mile down from North Twin. Then trail became dry and wet. Stream crossing was high and we were glad to have carried our water shoes...water felt refreshing! Saw tons of people at the start, several groups doing a Pemi Loop, and a big group on South Twin. Fun day with Bobcat and Pemi!
