Bareboot for most of the 10.2 miles. You'll really want the spikes for the last 1/1.5 mile to the summit. It's slushy, slick, hard ice, water running over ice. The last push to the summit is the real necessity for spikes. It's steep and therefore the melting ice and snow has created a sheet of slick ice. It would be very difficult and not particularly safe to take on without spikes. Trekking poles would also be helpful here, although I did not have any myself. |
