| Comments: |
The day started with snow and wind gusts and by the end of the day we felt like we experienced all 4 seasons. I put spikes on before the NCT and CMT junction, kept them on until .4 before Carter Dome summit where I put hillsounds on. Descending Carter Dome (steep section) was bare and traction not necessary. Going up WCRT to Wildcat A there was inconsistent ice and snow we chose hillsounds and soon after met a hiker descending that said 'this is treacherous'
On the ridge there were several ice floes that were softening up nicely with the afternoon sun, however just before I reached WC D summit there was a sketchy ice floe that requires care and sharp spikes. Nice to walk down polecat in the sun with soft mashed potato snow sliding and skiing in spikes and laughing the whole way. Saw 3 others all day. Excellent day with E.S. and D.C. |
