Date of Hike: Saturday, May 7, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The large Ferncroft Road parking area was almost full at 9:00AM. By the time I returned there was a string of vehicles lining the access road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The brook crossing on the Dicey's Mill Trail was easy on rocks although some may wish to test their balance by crossing on the fallen tree across the river.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good condition. Water diversion ditches were clear. It appeared there was a short trail relocation on the Dicey's Mill trail since my last ascent. WODC keeps the trails in good condition with lots of stone steps.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good for dogs
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were at the parking lot when I returned. Otherwise there were no bug problems.

Comments
Comments: I decided to forego the Blueberry Ledge trail due to the wetness of the surfaces, the potential for rain, and no views from the outlook ledge. Consequently I hiked to Mt Passaconaway. I was able to bare boot the entire way. There was no snow ice on the Dicey's Mill trail below the junction with the Rollins trail. There was one ice flow just above the aforementioned junction that could be bare booted with careful foot placements although light traction is a reasonable precaution. There is a mix of bare ground and ice on the Dicey's Mill trail on the summit cone. There were sufficient exposed rocks to aid in ascent. There was icy spots in the summit area that could be traversed cautiously with bare boots. The Walden trail had less ice than the Dicey's Mill side of the mountain. East Loop was easy with very little ice. Due to the cloudiness I did not bother to go down to the north viewpoint.
