| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
plenty of parking at big bend in Tunnel Stream Road - lots of cars in the lot later in the day |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Wet Trail, Mud - Significant |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Tunnel Brook was rock-hoppable but it wasn't easy to find a place to avoid getting the shoes wet!!! |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Significant blowdown near the beginning of the Benton Trail - significant herd path is forming. Other lesser, random blowdowns. NOTE: Tunnel Brook Trail is TOUGH to follow and get over all the Forest Service cut trees and slash. I wasn't sure I was on the actual trail so I kept looking in the woods thinking the trail must be there. NOPE - the slash IS the trail - it's HORRIBLE!!!! |

My FAVORITE route up Moosilauke - I hadn't been on this trail in YEARS!!!! I love the lower outlook - today it was the only place with a view. NOTE: ice started around 4000' up to just below where the trail breaks out of the trees. Actual summit had no ice. There was NO way to get up that sheet of ice without at least Hillsounds. Really light traction just wouldn't be enough. No views from the top but plenty of nice woods. Nice and sunny at lower elevations. |
