Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Ravine Lodge Road was open today. Not positive it's open for good; if you want to know for sure before getting to trailhead try checking with DOC. About 6 cars parked at turn around at end of road (a no no during summer season) but probably a smarter choice today. I parked at Y junction; my preferable spot and walked road in by lodges. Some excavation work as well as work on lodges being done. Several large rocks on road would love taking a bite out of your car so drive slowly. 3-6" snow on road at noon; lot of it melted by 4:00. As dry as its been road wasn't very muddy even with new melting snow.

Comments
Comments: Wore microspikes from start until crossing bridge near end. Enough new snow so that only times abusing them were on parts of Carriage Road and section of Gorge Brook below Wales-Carter Connection. Snow softening and getting crusty in shaded areas in afternoon. Only ice really noticed was under new snow was on upper Gorge Brook Tr.. Fine hiking today but I would still bring traction as "it is better to have and not need than to need and not have". Powdery snow at summit not melting around 2:00 and stinging face with the wind. Glad to have loaded pack up with extras again. Surprised to find no traffic on any trails other than on this loop today. Consistent 3-6" new snow throughout; open sunny areas were bare on trip down.
