Comments
Comments: i walked up noyes road which was a bit muddy and rutted from recent logging activity up to a large log landing. at this point is its junction with a snowmobile trail. i followed the snowmobile trail west over an eastern sub peak of morgan pond peak past a large clear cut then up to just north of the peak. the trail was fairly soggy with some patches of wet snow. from there it was a fairly short bushwhack through mostly open woods up to the recognized highpoint. pretty much a continuous carpet of wet snow all the way. i dropped back down to the snowmobile trail and followed it back to the log landing. i walked briefly on a skid road to the east then started bushwhacking towards east springfield mountain through mature softwoods crossing a couple drainages before bearing more south towards the peak. noting very fresh moose sign i soon jumped a moose that looked to be a pregnant cow. she put on a nice show trotting away through the open woods. the woods up to the summit along the mountains north ridge were really nice and wide open. the summit area is fairly broad with multiple possible high bumps, but the recognized highpoint is sort of to the western end in some spruce. wet snow once again carpeted the woods in many spots. descending i used roughly the same route back to noyes road and the car.
