We parked at the Flume Visitor Center parking lot. Our hiking route was: Whitehouse Trail (bike path) to Liberty Spring trail to Franconia Ridge trail and back. The lower portion of Liberty Spring was dry or a little wet in places. We put on microspikes just before the tent site. To make life easier, we wore spikes the remainder of the hike up Liberty and over to Flume (on Franconia Ridge trail) and back, other than when on the rocky summits. On the way back down Liberty Spring, we wore traction until just past the tent site then removed them. We saw some people setting up a tent at the campsite. A beautiful sunny day in the 40s, some wind gusts. During our six hour jaunt we met 15 other happy hikers and three dogs. |
