Comments
Comments: This hike is a mixed bag and you will see all possible spring conditions.
The initial climb from the parking lot to the height of land is ice free, mostly dry, and easy going. Now the trails become wet, wet, wet. - no surprise if you've done this route before. We did the bushwack both directions to enjoy the glades and reduce crossings just one. Engine hill is quite wet but still worth it. After the bushwack we were on snow, ice, or monorail nearly constantly to the summit so we benefitted from microspikes. There is lots of flowing water under the snow pack along the trail, and many snow/ice bridges collapsed under foot as we passed. It will likely get worse before it gets better as the monorail gives ibn to warmer temps.
The moderate terrain made this a much easier hike than the big ice we've been on lately. If you want to go out and get wet or muddy this route is definitely ready for dogs.
