From the trailhead to just before the top water crossing was mostly dry with minor mud.
There is still significant ice to deal with in descending to/ascending from the top water crossing. Trail switches back to mud/ice thereafter. However, patchy ice resumes as the trail pulls away from the chairlift. Above 3,000 feet, there is still significant ice, requiring traction of some sort. Ice is 6-12" deep and wall to wall in many places. Microspikes were adequate today.
Patchy on the ridge. The Mt. Tecumseh Trail summit loop (right at junction) still has ice, as well as spring snow on the final ascent. The scrambles are bare. The Sosman Trail summit loop (left at the junction) is generally bare with some patchy ice in a few places.
The Sosman Trail from the Mt. Tecumseh Trail to the ski area is still generally covered in ice, but is flat enough that I could bareboot.
The ski slopes have patchy snow remaining - not enough to have a continuous top to bottom ski run, but one can find some places to get a few turns in.
One can in theory ascend the ski slopes and go across Sosman with care without traction. Mt. Tecumseh Trail requires traction and probably will for awhile longer.
Trout lily in bloom. Trillium possibly tomorrow.
Congratulations to Bill on completing his second Grid today. |
