| Comments: |
Barebooted Nineteen Mile Brook Trail (patchy ice easily avoided). Took Carter Dome Trail to Zeta Pass. Put on microspikes just prior to reaching Zeta Pass when trail became more consistently ice-covered. Kept them on all day until back to this same spot. I carried crampons but never used them (almost did but microspikes seemed to suffice). Carter Dome Trail was hard-packed snow and ice alternating to Carter Dome. Ice patches on way to Mt. Hight. First part of Carter-Moriah Trail on descent from Hight was very icy. Saw only 1 person all day, the Carter Notch Hut caretaker returning from his week off. Great day to be out--sunny, perfect blue sky, great views, very little wind. Tired of all the ice! |
