Comments: Decided to hike this traverse from Oliverian Brook Trail to Pine Bend Brook. We usually do it in reverse. A challenging hike either way due to conditions now. Started in old micros. On and off ice for a couple miles. Once on Passaconaway Cut off, more significant ice flows. Switched to Hillsounds. Major ice on Walden to Passaconaway. Used K10 crampons on the descent from Passaconaway. Sunshine used K10 crampons on Rollins since her Hillsounds were dull. Bobcat and Gypsy Hiker wore sharp Hillsounds. Saw a barebooter in sneakers - no idea how he managed!? Kate Sleeper Trail was a joy...Hillsounds worked well. The South Slide was snow and ice free until back in the woods. Put Hillsounds on to South Peak. Quickly put on crampons for descent and kept them on until Scar Ridge. Some fresh snow helied cushion the ice. Used Hillsounds and crampons for final descent. Shortly after Wilderness sign on Pine Bend Brook, trail is bare. Pleasant to bareboot from there. Saw a group of five doing the traverse in the opposite direction. An epic adventure!
