Comments
Comments: Parked at lot 1 of WV ski resort (it's closed now) and started at the nearby trailhead. The first quarter of the hike was nice and dry, lots of leaves on the trail made it feel like fall. After that, the ice started coming on strong especially when we got to the running brook, which is when I threw on my microspikes. My boyfriend didn't have a pair, just equipped with poles which helped him a little but much of his hike included going off the trail to find a little bit of snow, crawling across thick sheets of slick ice, falling, and being overall unhappy. It seems like it'll be a while until the ice melts - it covered about 75% of the trail to the summit so bring spikes/crampons to make it easier! At the split to the summit, we continued to follow the yellow markings (to the right) which was probably another poor decision - this seemed steeper, whereas we took the blue markings (follow Sosman Trail sign) from the summit down and most of that was flat with granular snow/ice. We continued down Sosman Trail instead of doubling back to Mt. Tecumseh Trail, and headed for the ski trails which was another adventure in itself (lots of butt sliding here). Incredible views at the summit though!
