I bare-booted until the you enter in to more wooded area and the trail is less steep (about a mile). The ice starts in small patches and I tried rock spikes and within 5 minutes switched to hillsounds. Going up over the ice bulges in the morning were manageable. Just before the Starr king summit there is a sketchy area, the walk between the 2 summits was great with a ice/hard pack combo and a dusting of snow. Just before the Waumbek summit the piles of frozen moose dropping are apparent and after the summit heading toward the outlook the piles were fresh and so were the puddles. I am unsure if this is the animal's bathroom or home but once we caught a glimpse of it we turned and headed back away to give the animal space. It was great to see it through the trees, but I can't imagine people walking through my living space at any given time. |
