| Comments: |
With the recent cold snap I hoped that the usual muddy spots along the Bunnell Notch trail would be frozen. I started very early and encountered no muddy spot; even on the way out it was still frozen. I put on microspikes when entering the evergreens at the notch and kept them on until I reached that place again on my way down. There were some big ice bulges on the upper reaches of the Kilkenny Ridge trail, but as the trail is never very steep the microspikes were adequate. Some might prefer the Hillsounds for the way down, but they stayed in my pack. Of course things will change again by tomorrow. Never saw another person. |
