Comments
Comments: Thought there would be some reports posted based on the traffic I saw on my way out. So here it goes, a little late to be useful today. The ice is significant. I did it in micro spikes, but should have probably switched into my crampons. Ice axe would also be helpful. Went to spikes at the first major crossing on Hancock Notch trail and left them on the entire way. We went counter clockwise and I recommended this to everyone we saw. The loop up south was solid ice the entire way, with no way around it. Trees are your friends. I would not have wanted to descend it. Ridge was a mixture of more ice, nice hard pack, and some bare ground. North branch was more ice, however most of it had some bare ground along the edge you could get into, and much more exposed rock and dirt. Not easy by any stretch, but would much rather descend this than what we ascended on the south branch. Ran into one about half way down north who had turned around as his dog was not having it with the ice. Disappointed but a good call. I considered it a few times myself. Actually looked as though the Arrow Slide might be the way to go. It looked pretty ice free. Saw no one until a short way down from the north peak. Back near the loop junction the flood gates opened and I then passed maybe a dozen on their way in. Hope everyone was safe. Nice quick morning hike before the rain.
