| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Open spots in lots 1 & 2 at noon. Was told at the Mobil store in Campton that this was last weekend at WV. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All 3 crossings easily rock hopped on wet rocks. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Looked to be some recent blowdown clearage up higher. Most likely thanks Jeremy for his continued trail work throughout the Whites. Surprised that the lower section was hardly muddy at all. Nicely blazed and signed. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a couple using their 4 natural crampons to the best of their ability. |

| Lost and Found: |
A microspike was hanging on the Lot 2 sign up high. |

| Comments: |
Most had microspikes today. About 10 barebooted or were sharing traction (one foot) and wished they had brought more. Trail was bare and slightly wet for the first 25 minutes. Ice began shortly before the last crossing and continued mostly all the way up. I took John's advise from 3-25 and went left on the loop going up and right going down. The left side was far icier than the right route which had the most snow pack that I saw. Might be a case of which ever way you went you wished you had gone the other way. I used a combination of rock spikes, sharp spikes and Hillsound Trail Pros which I used going down until the upper crossing. These worked very well going down and there were many spots where I saw microspike marks sliding on the ice. Stayed cold enough so that ice remained fairly hard and most likely will be worse tomorrow. |
