Comments
Comments: Left this hike crushed and defeated. Was hoping to traverse to Wildcat A then backtrack to Polecat. However due to very icy conditions we were lucky we made it to D. A lot of time and energy was exerted climbing up over E's slippery ridge...a lot of lost time. We attempted to go over to C from the platform lookout however due to very icy conditions we decided to turn back; I believe if we did not turn back our trip would have either ended in an injury or at midnight! Polecat was a fairy easy descent due to the trail being closed but there were some icy patches. Walked Rt. 16 back to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center...felt good to get the spikes off. Hillsounds and Kahtoola's were used. We both had crampons which could have been used in many spots however the microspikes were sufficient.
