At the first crossing we opted to stay on river right and head up to the bridge, although it looked like you could cross if you were willing to step on rocks that had water going over them. We had to do that for the other crossing |

Baxter had no problem with the steep ice, He wasn't too happy on the way down as he was doing a lot of slip, sliding |

The ground is bare and dry and then it gets really muddy. At around 2800 feet the ice starts to appear on the trail. Above 3,000 feet it is a solid skating rink. The small areas of snow on the trail were very frozen, really much more ice than snow. I put Hillsounds (just bought my first pair this week) on at 2900 feet and wore them all the way up and then back down to the same spot. Others on the trail had microspikes and seemed to be doing ok. I really like the Hillsounds except when I was walking on the bare sections between the icy sections. Oh well.. |
