Comments
Comments: Didn't feel like doing the Icy-ola ice climb up from Greeley Ponds Trail so opted for the longer, mellower approach from Tripoli Road. Other than its being almost 14 miles round trip (w/~4000 ft of total climb), not sure why more folks don't use this approach, especially this extremely icy winter/spring. It is a much gentler route, there is nothing really steep until you hit the ridge between the peaks, and you never have the feeling that you might slide to your death or seriously break something. ;p

We barebooted the road and first 1/2 mile of trail, spiked it the rest of the trail, barebooted road back to car. There were some ice bulges and flows; however, they were of a flatter or gently sloping variety. No need for crampons w/front points coming up this side! There was new snow--about 1/2" on the road (mostly melted by mid afternoon), increasing to 2-3" on the ridge. We did the bypass of the bypass descending and the bypass on the ascent which was mostly ice free slushy stuff at that point. Leisurely lounged in the sun once back on Osceola main peak. Beautiful, beautiful day up there and saw no one!
