Comments
Comments: Spring time rock spikes were the tool of choice today. From the start of the Jewell trail to just above treeline traction was a must (for me)- Although I met someone bare booting in jeans that slipped in the water crossing at the start of the hike.... anyway, my luck was much better. Gulfside junction to the Clay loop spikes were necessary and from Clay loop to the summit of Jeff you could easily keep the spikes off and still play it safe. On my way down the Jewell hillsounds could have been used but I stayed in dull spikes and had fun trying to guess what would be next ice, mud, snow. The only thing constant was change, it didn't matter it was a spectacular day to be out in the mountains with the mild temps and sunshine. It was fun chatting with Gary T. and running into Bruce P.
