You Need Traction. The snow/ice on the ladders and the steep stretches between the ladders are treacherous without traction. It is possible (but not advisable) to ascend with only microspikes, trail crampons or full crampons are much better. You will risk injury attempting to descend with only microspikes. I went on an involuntary butt-sled above the "downlook" while wearing Hillsound trail crampons. Switched to TCPs for the remainder of the upper trail (should have switched before starting down the ladder section). |
