Comments
Comments: NE over 40 hiking group. Parked at Cannon tram. Bare booted a short distance on the Greenleaf trail before putting on microspikes. These worked well until we encountered an extensive trail section of water ice after Eagle Pass that required using crampons. Stayed in crampons all the way to the hut. Hiked through a cloud then got above it. At the hut we were in full sunshine. Climbed about a third of the way to Lafayette summit in crampons then switched to microspikes when the water ice thinned out. Stayed a while to enjoy the summit as the sun was bright and there was little wind. Used microspikes all the way down to the hut. The ice and some snow were slushy with water running down the trail in places. Some people in the group changed to crampons for the descent on the Greenleaf trail. Changed back to microspikes at Eagle Pass. Yet another great Saturday for hiking. Enjoyed my first hike with a meetup group.
