The crossing at the former Kinsman Cabin was a problematic for me, but not for everyone else. There was some black ice on the stepping rocks and one had to leap. I simply went upstream for about 30 seconds and found a safer crossing. The two other subsequent crossing over Mossy Falls and Flume Brook required only careful maneuvering. |

I bare booted trail up to the Bald Peak unction. After the junction, patches of snow and then lots of ice flows...put on my MicroSpikes. Most people were wearing MicroSpikes but some had crampons. I used crampons for the descent. Not bad going up or down as long as you had traction. Beautiful 360 degree views from summit of Bald Peak and 180 degree views from the North Kinsman ledge. Counted about a dozen people today all whom appeared to be enjoying the hike and lovely weather on this last day of winter. I did not go to South Kinsman so I suspect there were quite a few people what went to tag the summit. A few people 65 and older. If anyone on the trail today wasn't having a good time they did a terrific job hiding that fact! |
