Used microspikes from the start until Hancock Loop trail. Switched to k-10 crampons for ascent to N. Hancock. Hillsounds would have been okay too, but I felt more secure and safe with my crampons on. The inch or so of new snow helped with grip. Packed trail between the peaks. Coming down from the South Peak, major ice showing in sections from butt sliders. Glad to be wearing crampons at this point. Switched to Hillsounds at loop junction to end. I would suggest going up the South Peak first if you don't have crampons for the descent of South Hancock. Beautiful views today! |
