Comments
Comments: after not hiking in over a month, this trip kicked my butt.(the kinsmans' have it in for me.) didn't carry snowshoes, but my pack was heavy with extra gear in case i ran in to trouble. first 1.5mi of trail barebooted the mud and running water. put spikes on for the remainder of the hike for the crusty snow and ice. could've switched to full crampons and considered it for the practice, however i skirted into the woods or hugged trees around the worst patches of ice. a lot of running water over the ice carved deep rivulets, which helped somewhat with footing. didn't seen anyone on the way up, though i knew there was a small group ahead of me. once on the ridge, met two fellows who had come up fishin' jimmy and reported lots of ice that way. on my way to south kinsman, met the group who had been ahead of me. (nice to put some faces to names.) took my time on the way down, but caught back up with Lady Di and Schorman at the 1st/last water crossing and walked out with them. all around nice day!
